If you’ve been recruiting for a while, you know the feeling of choosing between multiple offers. There’s an opportunity cost to every decision and while some choices are easy to make, others can have you questioning the direction you want to take your career in after graduating. Choosing an offer is a big deal and we want to make sure you think over a few things before making your decision.
The Role
If you’ve been applying to multiple roles, consider how those roles will get you to the next level. If you're an aspiring designer, how will the marketing offer you got help you grow as a designer? Prioritize roles that will help build skill sets you want to have. Even if you don’t land your ideal role, what positions will help make your future recruiting efforts easier?
The Organization
The people you surround yourself with will ultimately have a hand in shaping your growth. The friends you make, your managers, and the culture of the organization will influence your habits and set the future trajectory of your career. When evaluating organizations, it’s important to ask yourself what culture do you hope to start the next stage of your life in. What impact is that organization having on the world and is it’s mission something you support?
The Goal
The goal, or the reason you wanted the offer in the first place, sets the standard by which you should assess the value of each opportunity. Did you want a big name on your resume or were you looking to be challenged this summer? Return to this initial reasoning and use it to evaluate your current offer so that even if you don’t have another offer lined up, you don’t regret making a final decision.
Take your time to evaluate each opportunity. If you are running out of time, though, reach out to your recruiter to extend the deadline. If you already have an offer this semester, congrats! You’re in a great place and good luck with the rest of your recruiting season.
