We all have an idea of what a perfect college experience should be: getting great grades, making a ton of friends, etc. But even when we think we have a plan, things creep up on us and we end up somewhere we never expected to be. This isn’t because our plans fail or that we gave up on them, we just discovered something new about ourselves and wanted to see where that new thing could take us.
When you think back to the most impactful decisions you made, the ones that changed the trajectory of your career or led to an awesome opportunity, chances are that they weren’t planned. There was definitely some thought that when into making that decision, but ultimately, you took a chance at something that wasn’t on your life roadmap.
We know that this semester, you’ll be grinding away at schoolwork, applying to jobs, and trying to be the best version of yourself. You’ll be leading projects and making an impact on your community. And during that time, we want you to go off script and do something that you’ve always wanted to do. You can take an interesting job, commit to learning a new language or skill, or join a new student organization. It can be anything and it doesn’t have to align with your current college plans at all!
A successful college experience doesn’t have to be perfect. You're going to make decisions that you end up regretting and ones that open new doors, so don’t stress out too much this year and have fun!
